I took this photo of the amazing roof at Charles de Gaulle Airport whilst waiting for my transfer to the plane to Japan. 2816x2112 CdGAirport.JPG 2006-11-09 10:52:43 |
Despite it being cloudy, the views from the Japan office still give a greate impression of what the city is like! 2816x2112 ViewFromOffice1.JPG 2006-11-10 07:06:56 |
A second view from the office. You can see the Olympic Tower to the right of the river. (I took this picture from the Arco tower, which I misheard as Olympic tower. That chimney is a plastic bottle recycling centre :*) ) 2816x2112 ViewFromOffice2.JPG 2006-11-10 07:07:41 |
Sheltering from the rain under the 'Chouchin' at Sensouji temple. It rained hard all day, but it was still busy here because the Japanese know to come prepared with umbrellas! 2816x2112 CouchinSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 03:00:59 |
Yoshko and Martin, my hosts, in front of a typical shop near the temple. The shops sold everything from shoes to bags to fans and chopstics - great for picking up a souvenir or two! 2816x2112 WigShopSensouji.jpg 2006-11-11 03:20:21 |
We stopped for delicous noodles. Everything is prepared and cooked freshly in the small crowded tent! 2816x2112 NoodleBarSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 03:26:16 |
A five-teir pagoda near the temple. 2816x2112 PagodaSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 03:50:54 |
This statue of Buda looks like it's crying. Martin, who is a photographer, noted that when it rains you see things differently. He said that coulours become saturated.. And then pardoned the pun! 2816x2112 BudaSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 03:52:11 |
Martin quickly adjusts his camera 2816x2112 MartinSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 03:55:09 |
I experimented with a slow shutter speed selection on my camera and obtained a nice effect of movemente 2816x2112 WaterSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 04:00:43 |
These fish are a little koi... 2816x2112 Koi1Sensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 04:02:52 |
I think these koi look superimposed on the picture. 2816x2112 Koi2Sensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 04:02:58 |
The side of Sensouji temple. The backwards schwastika is a common symbol in Eastern Asia! 2816x2112 TempleSensuji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 04:04:52 |
Before entering the temple you can cleanse yourself with the wafting smoke from burning paper. 2816x2112 SmokeSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 04:09:49 |
This statue stood out becuse of the bright clothes. At least it is protected from the rain! 2816x2112 RedStatueSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 04:16:25 |
A statue of an old woman. 2816x2112 OldWomanSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 04:25:47 |
Although this is a busy shopping mall, it doesn't feel crowded when you are there - a little hard to explain, but you'll have to trust me on thatI 2816x2112 ShoppingSensouji.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 05:25:24 |
The building on the left is meant to represent a glass of lager. On the right was meant to be a drop of beer, but due to an engineering miscalculation it had to be laid on its side. People call it "The Golden Turd" (Sorry mum!) 2816x2112 BeerTower.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 05:34:46 |
In the fog you can just see the Rainbow Bridge. 2816x2112 RainbowBridge.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 06:30:35 |
The top of the Tokyo Tower is shrouded in cloud. Here, you pay about 8 pounds to reach the half way level at 100 meters. If you want to reach the top level, 200 meters, you have to pay another 8 pounds. Worth it if it isn't foggy! We went up, but I took no good pictures from there. 2816x2112 TokyoTower.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 06:47:50 |

We had a superb meal at a restaurant called Hokkaido. Cheesy grin! 2112x2816 MeAtTheHokkaido.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 10:33:02 |
The Hokkaido logo projected on the floor outside the restaurant. 2816x2112 Hokkaido.JPG.jpg 2006-11-11 10:39:43 |
